Days out on Canals of Central England

If you and your group enjoy fresh air and seeing the countryside and historic waterside settings from a new angle, then a canal boat day trip with your group is an idea well worth thinking about.

The UK's canal system dates back over 200 years and narrowboats provide a unique view of so many beautiful rural settings and places with heritage that is etched in the fabric and history of our inland waterways; none more so than in Central England.
In the West Midlands, Dudley Canal & Caverns explore an exciting network of underground canal routes below the Black Country town of Dudley. Their 45 minute underground boat trip takes visitors on a journey back in time to the Silurian age as their skipper will bring the history of this
hidden world to life on their electrically propelled narrowboats. Expect sound and light shows, historic recreations and informative commentary as you learn about what was mined here and how it shaped the Industrial Revolution and building of our canals.

As well as their Dudley Underground Experience, Dudley Canal and Caverns operate a number of themed tours including The Two Tunnel Tour, Dudley Tunnel Trip, Open Water Cruise and Fish and Chip Supper Cruise. And with the Christmas season in mind, they will also be operating their Winter Nights by Christmas Lights and Santa Boat Trips; a 45 minute boat trip journey through their festive tunnels which will transport you to a magical beautifully-lit Christmas Wonderland.

Also in Central England to the east of the region, LNBP Community Boating provide the opportunity for groups to sample life on the Oxford and Grand Union Canals aboard their two full-sized narrowboats.

From their moorings at the beautiful historic village of Braunston on the Northamptonshire and Warwickshire border, you and your group can sit back and take in the peace, calm and tranquillity of the surrounding countryside and wildlife as you enjoy the experience of an altogether slower and quieter pace of life.

With a choice for their routes for either full day, half day or evening trips, you can expect LNBP's team of skippers to not only steer the boat but also provide you and your group with information about the history of the canals and its rich local heritage at the heart of the UK waterways. Plus to really get hands-on, there's always opportunity for you and your group members to have a go at steering the boats too.

Bring a picnic or why not think about a stop-off at one of the several quaint canalside pubs nearby. And why not combine a canal boat trip with LNBP as part of an overnight or short break to the area. They can assist with suggestions for local accommodation to explore many of the local attractions nearby including the historic towns of Rugby, Northampton, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as the cities of Coventry and Birmingham.
